Will History Repeat? Zamalek Begins Group Stage Against Mozambican Opponents
Zamalek is ready to start its CAF Confederation Cup group stage matches tonight against Mozambique’s Black Bulls at Cairo International Stadium. Zamalek is in Group D with Al Masry, Enyimba, and Black Bulls. They hope to use their good history against Mozambican teams to their advantage.
In the past, the White Knights have played against Mozambican clubs four times, winning three games and losing one. During these games, they scored seven goals and let in three.
The first time they met was in 1997, when Zamalek beat Ferroviário 2-1 in Cairo, with goals from Akram Abdel-Majid and Tarek El-Said. But in the second game in Mozambique, Zamalek lost 2-0.
Abdel Halim Ali and Walid Salah Abdel Latif helped Zamalek defeat Costa do Sol 2-0 on the road in 2002. That year's home leg resulted in a decisive 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Hazem Emam, Hossam Hassan, and Wael Kabbani.
Fans are hoping for another impressive showing from Zamalek against Black Bulls tonight, which will set the tone for their Confederation Cup campaign.
