Manchester City refuses to pay part of Cancelo's wages, so for the deal to happen, the Portuguese defender must agree to a salary reduction to a level that Barcelona is willing to cover.

According to the same source, Barcelona views Cancelo as their primary right-back for the new season, which will likely result in Jules Koundé being shifted to the center of defense, where he feels more comfortable. Cancelo's agent, Jorge Mendes, who has good relations with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, is actively working to secure his client’s return to Catalonia.
