Who Wins the Woman of the Match Award in Malawi’s Historic 3-1 Win Over Algeria?

Tabitha Chawinga was named the TotalEnergies Woman of the Match after inspiring Malawi to a historic 3-1 victory over Algeria in the WAFCON 2026 semi-final.

The Malawi captain delivered a superb performance in Rabat, scoring twice to help the Scorchers reach their first-ever Women's Africa Cup of Nations final.

Chawinga opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a stunning acrobatic effort before completing her brace with a composed left-footed finish after the break.

Algeria pulled one back through Ikram Adjabi, but Chawinga's second goal restored Malawi's two-goal advantage and put the Scorchers firmly in control.

Her goals, attacking threat and leadership earned her the TotalEnergies Woman of the Match award as Malawi secured one of the biggest victories in their history.

The Scorchers have also already qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup and will now turn their attention to their first-ever WAFCON final.
