“Who Will He Bench?” – Khanye Slams Tau-to-Pirates Idea

South African forward Percy Tau is currently a free agent and open to offers. But former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has warned him against joining Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs, citing pressure and unrealistic expectations.
Khanye’s Verdict: Avoid Soweto Giants
Speaking to iDiski TV, Khanye said Tau would struggle at Pirates due to fierce competition in attack, and that Chiefs are not the right fit either.
“He’s not the same player he was six or seven years ago. At Pirates, there’s too much pressure and brilliant young players already there. Who will he bench?”
He added that even star names like Khama Billiat couldn’t carry Chiefs, questioning whether Tau could succeed where others failed.
Why Sundowns Make Sense
Khanye believes Tau should return to Mamelodi Sundowns, even if it means accepting a pay cut.
“He must humble himself and go back to Sundowns. They can use him in the Champions League and maybe give him a job after retirement. They take care of their legends.”
Salary Expectations Raise Concerns
Reports suggest Tau is looking for around R400,000 per month, but Khanye warned:
“If you want that kind of money, you must deliver. If not, the contract can be terminated. That’s the risk.”
The Bigger Picture
Khanye praised Tau’s professionalism and talent but insists that a strategic return to Sundowns could extend his career and secure his post-playing future.
