Spanish coach Xabi Alonso joined Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022. Few expected remarkable results from this appointment at the time. However, with the "pharmacists," Alonso won the 2023/2024 Bundesliga and went through the entire tournament unbeaten. He also secured the German Cup and Super Cup.

However, the new season hasn't been as smooth for Bayer. They trail Bayern Munich by eight points in the Bundesliga, making a comeback with nine games left in the season almost impossible.

But, as it turns out, that's not the club's biggest issue. Currently, the "pharmacists" have lost three matches in a row.

The streak began a week ago: in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 against Bayern Munich (0-3), followed by a defeat to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga (0-2), and today, the team lost again to Bayern Munich in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (0-2). Not only did Bayer lose all these games, but they also failed to score.

The last time Bayer lost three consecutive matches was in August 2022, before Alonso even joined Leverkusen. As for three consecutive matches without scoring, the club last experienced this over five years ago, in December 2019.

Interestingly, for the Spanish coach, this is the first time he has faced three consecutive defeats at the top level (top leagues plus European competitions). Previously, a similar streak happened with Real Sociedad's reserves in May 2022. Now, as a coach of a senior team, Xabi is facing a new reality where his team has lost three matches in a row.
