What happened? Bissouma explains the nitrous oxide scandal
Tottenham has launched an internal investigation into Yves Bissouma after a video surfaced online showing the midfielder inhaling nitrous oxide. The footage, published by The Sun tabloid, captures the 29-year-old footballer using what is commonly known as 'laughing gas'—a substance whose possession and recreational use in the UK can lead to criminal charges, including up to two years in prison.
The Malian midfielder has already issued a public apology and explained what drove him to this behavior. According to Bissouma, the robbery of his London home dealt him a serious psychological blow. Thieves made off with belongings worth around one million pounds sterling.
I'm truly sorry. I've always considered myself strong both physically and mentally, but what happened in my home broke something inside me that I didn't even know existed. The trauma I experienced and everything that followed led to fear, panic, depression, and paranoia," the footballer admitted, apologizing to fans and the club.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that this is not the first such incident in Bissouma's career. In August last year, he was already temporarily suspended by Tottenham following a similar controversy.
