What?? Ex-Aston Villa player James Collins played a Premier League match with a piece of meat on his foot
Former Aston Villa defender James Collins shared a bizarre story on the Peter Crouch Podcast, revealing that he once played a Premier League match with a piece of raw meat strapped to his foot.
Collins recalled that he had suffered an injury the day before, fracturing the top of his foot. However, he was determined not to miss the game, and surprisingly, the club’s medical staff came up with an unusual solution to manage the pain.
"Our doctor at the time said: 'Right, you're going to think I'm mad but we're going to get some cling film and put a steak at the top of your foot to take the pressure, or whatever, away from the broken bone,’" Collins revealed.
He also joked that by halftime, the meat had practically cooked, as the intense action and sweating during the match had warmed it up.
Collins retired in 2020 after a career that included stints at West Ham, where he made 214 appearances, as well as Cardiff City and Ipswich Town.
On the international stage, he earned 51 caps for Wales, scoring three goals for his country.
