What Derrick Spencer had to say about Nasreddine Nabi!

Nasreddine Nabi continues to win the support of many believers in what he can bring to the team, and many former stars, including Derrick Spencer, believe that the Tunisian coach can take the team to the next level if he gets what he needs.
Nasreddine Nabi has faced growing scrutiny after securing just eight wins in 24 Betway Premiership matches this season. However, former Kaizer Chiefs captain Derrick Spencer believes the criticism is unwarranted, citing the challenges of a transitional campaign.
Speaking to SuperSport Bet, Spencer emphasized the need for patience, stating, "It’s been an inconsistent season—not what we hoped for—but with a new coach and nearly half the squad being new signings, success was never going to happen overnight."
He acknowledged the pressure on Nabi but attributed it to years of unmet expectations at the club. "The frustration stems from Chiefs’ long-term struggles. When a new coach arrives, fans demand instant results, but that’s unrealistic," Spencer explained.
Highlighting Nabi’s difficulties, he added, "Half the team is new, he’s coaching in South Africa for the first time, and there’s a language barrier. It hasn’t been easy. Calling this season a failure would be unfair—there have been positives, like reaching a final for the first time since 2019."
Spencer urged the club to retain Nabi, arguing that this season was about laying the foundation. "He deserves another year. The real test will be next season—that’s when he must compete for trophies."
