What a finish! Bastia defender scores stunning own goal. VIDEO
A bizarre incident occurred in the fifth-round match of French League 3 between Bastia and Amiens.
Bastia defender Noah Zillio decided to put an emphatic end to the opposition’s attack, but got his choice of goal slightly wrong. In the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half, Amiens launched a rapid counter-attack, with the ball eventually falling to Zillio.
The French defender opted not to take any risks and attempted to clear the ball. However, he executed the clearance so brilliantly that it turned into a genuine finish. Zillio produced a superb curling strike, sending the ball on a beautiful trajectory straight into the far corner of his own net.
The Bastia goalkeeper was powerless — the defender had simply executed the shot too well. Only instead of celebrating a spectacular finish, disappointment followed as the ball ended up in Bastia’s net.
Zillio had effectively finished off Amiens’ counter-attack all by himself, doing so with technique that many a striker would envy. It was certainly not a moment the defender will want to remember, but the own goal was undeniably spectacular.
