“We’ve come a long way,” Valentine Nguele relishes Cameroon’s qualification for the 2026 WAFCON final

The Indomitable Lionesses’ head coach has not forgotten the circumstances under which Cameroon reached this competition.

Cameroon secured their place in the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday 11 August, following a remarkable run. Having been eliminated during the tournament qualifiers before being reinstated following the expansion of the number of participants, Cameroon’s women’s team have made a strong impression to reach the final of the competition taking place in Morocco.

Following the victory over Morocco in the semi-final, Cameroon’s head coach, Valentine Nguele, reflected on her team’s journey.

“We’ve come a long way. We were reinstated, so we’re not putting any pressure on ourselves. We’re taking it one match at a time and putting our trust in the Lord. As a woman, I’m so proud to see this journey.

I also want to show my sisters in this profession that you have to see it through to the end. It’s not easy at all. Be willing to learn and weather all kinds of storms. I dedicate this victory to all female coaches.”
