'We Will Continue to Work With Him" – Gusau Backs Chelle as Super Eagles Reignite Winning Spirit

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles are on the right path under head coach Éric Chelle, describing the team as being close to “auto-pilot” success.

Gusau said Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco shows the team has recovered from consecutive FIFA World Cup qualification failures and is ready to rise again.

“Actually, when we landed in Morocco… our objective was to win the AFCON trophy… We missed our target but my joy is in the way our team played… with zest and patriotic fervour,” he said, praising their resilience.

He also lauded government backing, noting, “Without the support of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR… we would not have been able to do anything.”

Gusau added that Chelle “has done exceedingly well” in one year, as Nigeria went unbeaten in 17 competitive matches, scored a record 14 AFCON goals, and claimed a ninth bronze medal.
