At a press conference ahead of Senegal’s international friendly against Peru on Saturday 28 March at the Stade de France, Pape Thiaw was inevitably asked about CAF’s controversial decision to strip Senegal of the African championship title and award it to Morocco. But the Senegalese tactician did not mince his words. For him, the Lions of Teranga’s title remains indisputable, as it was won on the pitch.

We know we are African champions. We will continue to work hard to win more trophies. It is clear in our minds that competitions and trophies are won on the pitch. That has been done.
