“We Are Here for the Defence of the WAFCON Trophy” – Madugu

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says Nigeria are fully prepared to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title as they begin their 2026 WAFCON campaign against Malawi.

Nigeria are chasing a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and will face the Scorchers at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday.

Madugu expects a difficult tournament, with every team determined to challenge the defending champions.

“We have huge respect for all our opponents. Every team that qualifies for this tournament deserves commendation and a lot of respect.”

The coach also refused to underestimate Malawi, who are making their WAFCON debut, stressing that every team has arrived in Morocco with a clear purpose.

“We are here for the defence of the WAFCON trophy and the team is fully ready and set to go. We will stick to our game plan and our mission.”

Nigeria will now look to make a winning start as they begin their bid for another continental title. The encounter will kick off at 9 pm Nigeria time. The Copper Queens of Zambia and Egypt will clash in the other Group C fixture.
