Former England captain Wayne Rooney has strongly criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after their controversial move to retroactively award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco. Rooney insisted that Senegal had legitimately won the trophy on the field.
Speaking after the Champions League matches, the Manchester United legend, now a football pundit, expressed his disbelief at CAF’s ruling.
“It’s crazy. If I were a Moroccan player, I wouldn’t accept it. Senegal beat them fair and square,” Rooney said "The Senegal team beat them fairly."
