Legendary Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that among modern players, Marcus Rashford is the only one capable of surpassing his goal-scoring record. However, he also thinks that Rashford should be more consistent.

Last season was incredible for Rashford, as he found the net 30 times, but this football year, his statistics have significantly declined, with just six goals in 33 matches.

During an interview with TNT Sports, Rooney was asked if he sympathizes with Rashford's current struggles, to which he replied:

"Not really. I think he's in a privileged position, playing for Manchester United. I've already said he's the only player who can go and break my goal-scoring records.

I hope he does because he's a Manchester lad. But I think he needs to show some consistency. Yes, he's not having the best season, but he needs to find his form and become a leader in this team."

Currently, Wayne Rooney is the all-time leading scorer in Manchester United's history, having netted 253 times. In the Premier League, he scored 183 goals, making him the third-highest scorer in the league's history for a single club.

Rashford, who has been playing for the senior team since 2016, has scored 129 goals in 392 matches and currently sits in twelfth place. The Englishman needs to score another eight goals to break into the top ten.
