Washington Navaya reveals his true inspiration at Betway Premiership

Zimbabwean-born top scorer Washington Navaya has revealed the inspiration behind why he is currently the leading scorer in the Betway Premiership.
The Betway Premiership's January transfer window is heating up as no fewer than six top-flight clubs have registered serious interest in TelOne FC's prolific striker Navaya. The 23-year-old marksman has become the league's most sought-after talent following his blistering start to the season.
Goal Machine in Demand
With 8 goals in just 12 appearances, Navaya currently leads the Golden Boot race, narrowly edging out MWOS FC's Billy Veremu (7 goals). At his current scoring rate, pundits believe he could become the first player since the late Norman Maroto in 2010 to hit the elusive 20-goal milestone.
Small Club, Big Talent
Despite playing for modest Gweru-based outfit TelOne FC, Navaya's performances have outshone those of his more fancied counterparts. His contract situation - set to expire in December 2025 - makes him an attractive proposition for clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options without paying a transfer fee next summer.
What's Next?
As the January window approaches, all eyes will be on whether TelOne can retain their star man or if one of the chasing pack will trigger what promises to be one of the season's most intriguing transfer sagas.
What the player said about his true inspiration!
The Zimbabwean footballer won the March and April Player of the Month awards and is on the shortlist for the May award as well.
Surprisingly, despite being more than a year older, Navaya said that the talented Relebohile Mofokeng has been his inspiration from the beginning.
For me, it’s Relebohile Mofokeng because at his age, he is doing wonders in the PSL. It’s so inspiring to me, And Teko Modise is the former player that I always look up to. He was one of the deadliest in the league. All I can say is that he is technically gifted, and it’s something I look up to.
