In the Spanish Super Cup semifinal, Athletic Bilbao faced Barcelona. Late in the match, a controversial situation arose when the Basques had a goal disallowed.

Details: In the 87th minute, Iñaki Williams reduced the deficit after a mistake by Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. However, after a VAR review, the referees disallowed the goal. In one of the replays, it became evident that after De Jong’s misplaced pass, the ball was touched by Nico Williams, and this deflection was interpreted as a pass.

Was there offside?

A few minutes earlier, the referees had disallowed another Bilbao goal, also due to offside.

As for the match itself, Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0, securing their spot as the first finalist of the Spanish Super Cup. Goals were scored by Gavi and Yamal.

Interestingly, this was Gavi’s first goal in over a year. He last found the net back in September 2023.
