Warschewski’s Late Equalizer Leaves Cavalry and Vancouver Tied After First Leg

Tobias Warschewski scored in the 84th minute to earn Cavalry FC a 1-1 draw against Vancouver FC in the first leg of their Canadian Championship quarterfinal, per Canadian Press. The match, played Wednesday in Langley, saw David Norman Jr. give Vancouver the lead in the 41st minute, only for Cavalry to claw back late in the second half.
Cavalry dominated possession with 61.2 percent of the ball but struggled to convert that control into shots. Vancouver outshot the visitors 12 to 9, although Cavalry had the edge in shots on target, 4-3.
The return leg of the two-match aggregate series is scheduled for July 8 in Calgary. Cavalry currently sits third in the Canadian Premier League table with a 3-2-1 record, while Vancouver is near the bottom with just one win in six matches (1-3-2).
The winner of the quarterfinal will meet either Valour FC or MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in the semifinals. That series is also level after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
