Warrior. Barcelona defender Cubarsi received 10 stitches in his face. What happened?
Yesterday, Barcelona claimed a dominant 5-2 away victory over Crvena Zvezda in the 4th round of the UEFA Champions League. But one of their players quite literally sacrificed himself for the team's success.
Details: Barcelona’s central defender Pau Cubarsi was substituted for Sergi Dominguez in the 67th minute due to a gruesome injury.
In a play for the ball, Crvena Zvezda captain Uroš Spajić struck Cubarsi in the face with his boot as the young Barcelona defender attempted a diving header. Spajić’s studs sliced open Cubarsi's cheek.
After the match, Barcelona shared an image of Cubarsi’s injury. Medical staff had to apply 10 stitches, yet, incredibly, the 17-year-old was smiling in the photo.
Reminder: Barcelona has accumulated 9 points across their four Champions League matches so far. In the next round, Hansi Flick’s team will face Brest, the surprise contender of this season’s Champions League campaign.
