War in the Middle East disrupts Six Nations Cup: referee change for France vs England clash https://x.com/RMCsport/status/2029191850880274867?s=20

Just ten days before one of the most anticipated showdowns of the tournament—the “Crunch” between France and England—the World Rugby referees’ committee was forced to make an urgent change.

Details: According to RMC Sport, Australian referee Nic Berry, who was set to officiate the March 14 encounter, will not make it to Europe. The reason: widespread flight disruptions caused by the outbreak of military conflict in the Middle East.

Reports indicate the issue stems from the closure of major regional air hubs, which are crucial points for flights between Australia and Europe. With airlines canceling flights en masse or rerouting, Berry’s attendance at the match became impossible. In an official World Rugby statement, the organization emphasized that the decision was made solely due to logistical challenges in the Middle East.

Berry’s spot in the officiating crew will be taken by Georgian referee Nika Amashukeli. He will be joined on the lines by Irishman Andrew Brace and Scotland’s Hollie Davidson, who continues to solidify her position as one of the most influential women referees in world rugby. Notably, this conflict has already forced Berry out of more than one fixture: earlier, he was also replaced in Saturday’s Italy vs England match in Rome.
