The proceedings were triggered by recent remarks from Pérez, who publicly linked the refereeing scandal surrounding the Negreira case to Real Madrid’s lost trophies. The Madrid president openly claimed that seven La Liga titles had been stolen from his club. The Blaugrana hierarchy interpreted those words as a direct accusation of fraud and a serious attack on the club’s reputation.

If Pérez refuses to retract his claims during the hearing—or ignores the proceedings altogether—Barcelona intends to immediately initiate criminal proceedings and file a full criminal defamation lawsuit against the Real Madrid chief.

It is worth noting that Florentino Pérez has led Real Madrid for more than 20 years in total (from 2000 to 2006 and from 2009 to the present), winning 36 official trophies at the helm of the club, including seven Champions League titles and seven Spanish league titles.
