WAFU B U20 2026: Burkina Faso crowned champions following their victory over Nigeria
The young Stallions dominated the Flying Eagles on Sunday 9 August at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
Burkina Faso are the champions of the 2026 WAFU B U20 tournament, a qualifier for the 2027 African U20 Cup of Nations. Burkina Faso outplayed Nigeria in the final played on 9 August in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.
The Stallions took control of the match right from the kick-off. Burkina Faso opened the scoring within the first few minutes. Bagayoko Alassana put the young Burkinabe side ahead by finding the back of the net in the 3rd minute, 1–0.
Following this first goal, it didn’t take long for Burkina Faso to double their lead. Tapsoba Lookman extended the lead in the 5th minute, making it 2–0 to the U20 Stallions.
With Nigeria unable to mount a response, the Burkinabe side consolidated their dominance and added to their tally before the half-hour mark. Dabo Issouf scored the third goal in the 14th minute. The first half ended with Burkina Faso holding this comfortable lead.
After the break, the Flying Eagles reduced the deficit. Adeleke Abdulmuiz salvaged some pride by converting a penalty in the 50th minute, making it 3–1. But the U20 Stallions were not done yet. Barro Fadil sealed the victory in the 94th minute to make the score 4–1.
Burkina Faso have won the WAFU B U20 tournament and qualified for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
