WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers: ASEC Mimosas lose to Edo Queens and suffer a second defeat
The Ivorian club now finds itself in a difficult position in the race to qualify for CAF Women’s Champions League.
Group B of the WAFU B tournament, taking place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is playing its matchday 2 on 27 August. However, the first match, between Edo Queens of Nigeria and ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, has already produced its result.
The Edo Queens women’s side emerged victorious against their Ivorian opponents. Oluwakemi Adegbyi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute to give Edo Queens a 1-0 lead. ️Dooshima Tarnum doubled the lead before half-time. She found the back of the net in the 41st minute, taking the score to 2-0.
The Nigerians sealed their victory late in the second half. Oluebube Umajiaku scored Edo Queens’ third goal in the 89th minute. ASEC Mimosas salvaged some pride by scoring a consolation goal to make it 3–1.
This is the second defeat for the Ivorians, who had already lost 1-0 to Ampem Darkoa in their opening match. Edo Queens, meanwhile, have secured a second consecutive victory and remain top of Group B.
