The Malawi captain delivered a standout performance against the 10-time champions, scoring twice to help the tournament debutants secure a memorable victory in Rabat.
Chawinga opened the scoring in the 73rd minute, making history as the first player to score for Malawi at the WAFCON.
She later completed her brace in the fifth minute of stoppage time, restoring Malawi’s two-goal advantage after Nigeria had pulled one back through Rasheedat Ajibade.
Chawinga’s two goals, leadership and overall influence earned her the Woman of the Match award, making her the standout performer in one of the biggest upsets in WAFCON history.
