WAFCON 2026: Who Was Named the Woman of the Match in Ghana’s Win Over Cape Verde?
Josephine Bonsu was named the official Woman of the Match after helping Ghana secure a 2-0 victory over WAFCON debutants Cape Verde in their opening Group D fixture.
Bonsu delivered a strong individual performance as the Black Queens began their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a winning result.
Ghana took an early lead through Doris Boaduwaa, who finished in the sixth minute after being set up by Portia Boakye.
The Black Queens remained in control and doubled their advantage in the 54th minute when Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira turned the ball into her own net.
Ghana protected their lead until the final whistle to claim three important points and start their WAFCON campaign on a positive note.
Bonsu’s impressive display played an important role in Ghana’s victory and earned her the Woman of the Match award.
