WAFCON 2026: Temwa Chawinga Named Woman of the Match as Malawi Beat Ghana 2-1

Temwa Chawinga has been named the TotalEnergies Woman of the Match after inspiring Malawi to a historic 2-1 comeback victory over Ghana in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Malawi captain played a key role in the Scorchers' memorable quarter-final victory, scoring the equaliser after Ghana had taken an early lead.

Chawinga's goal in the 12th minute brought Malawi back into the contest and took her tournament tally to four goals and one assist.

Her leadership and attacking threat continued to cause problems for the Black Queens before Rose Kadzere scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute.

The victory sent Malawi into the WAFCON semi-finals for the first time and also secured their historic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
