WAFCON 2026: Tanzania Stun South Africa 2-1 in Group B Opener

Tanzania started their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a stunning 2-1 victory over South Africa in Casablanca on Monday.

The East African side took the lead late in the first half when Diana Msewa found the net to put Tanzania ahead.

South Africa, the 2022 African champions, responded in stoppage time before the break as Bambanani Mbane restored parity.

Tanzania, however, had the final say after substitute Hasnath Mbamba came off the bench to score the decisive goal and secure all three points.

The result gives Tanzania a perfect start to their Group B campaign, while South Africa are left to regroup ahead of their next match.
