WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Thrash Egypt 6-2 to Seal Quarter-Final Spot

Nigeria's Super Falcons bounced back in style to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after an emphatic 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C fixture at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Super Falcons made their intentions clear from the outset and broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when Asisat Oshoala calmly converted from the penalty spot.

Nigeria continued to press forward and doubled their advantage deep into first-half stoppage time. Gift Monday finished confidently after being picked out by Rinsola Babajide, giving the Super Falcons a comfortable cushion before the interval.

Egypt refused to go quietly and reduced the deficit moments later when Nadine Ghazi converted a penalty, sending the teams into the break with Nigeria leading 2-1.

Uchenna Kanu restored Nigeria's two-goal advantage before Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Joy Omewa all found the back of the net as the West Africans overwhelmed the Egyptian defence.

Ghazi grabbed her second goal of the night in the 84th minute to make the scoreline slightly more respectable for Egypt, but Nigeria's attacking display had already put the result beyond doubt.

The commanding victory secured Nigeria's place in the knockout stage, but it was Malawi who finished as Group C winners after defeating Zambia 2-1 in the other group fixture.
