The ten-time Women's Africa Cup of Nations champions conceded three goals in a single match for the first time in their history in the competition.

The Nigerian women’s team were caught off guard by Malawi on Tuesday 28 July in Group C at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat during the Women's Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Morocco. The Super Falcons lost 3–2 to the newcomers to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Not only is this defeat a bitter blow for Nigeria, but the scoreline also represents a poor statistic for the ten-time African champions. Indeed, the Nigerian women’s team had never previously conceded three goals in a single match.

Malawi have thus dented Nigeria’s defensive reputation in the competition. Furthermore, prior to the 3–2 defeat against Malawi on Tuesday 28 July in Morocco, Nigeria had never lost to a team making their debut at the WAFCON.
