WAFCON 2026: Morocco impressed with their solid defence during the group stage
The Atlas Lionesses are the only team not to have conceded a single goal after the first round of the competition.
Morocco have confirmed their status as one of the contenders for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. As runners-up in the previous edition, the Moroccan side put in a near-flawless performance in the tournament’s group stage.
The Moroccans secured two wins and a draw at the end of the group stage. However, this is not the only aspect of their performance that has caught the eye.
Solid in all areas of the game, the Moroccans displayed remarkable defensive discipline throughout the first round. In three matches, they managed to keep a clean sheet.
Morocco thrashed Kenya 4–0, beat Algeria 1–0, before drawing 0–0 with Senegal in Group A. No other team has managed to achieve as much at the end of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations, which is currently taking place in Morocco.
