WAFCON 2026: Morocco Held by Senegal but Finish Top of Group A

Hosts Morocco secured top spot in Group A of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) despite being held to a goalless draw by Senegal in a fiercely contested encounter on Monday night in Rabat.

The Atlas Lionesses entered the match aiming to complete a perfect group-stage campaign with a third consecutive victory, but they were frustrated by a determined Senegalese side and an inspired performance from goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye.

Morocco enjoyed the better of the attacking opportunities throughout the contest and looked set to break the deadlock in the second half when they were awarded a penalty. However, Ndiaye came to Senegal's rescue in spectacular fashion.

The Senegal goalkeeper first denied Yasmin Mrabet from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. After the referee ordered the kick to be retaken, Ndiaye produced another outstanding save to keep the score level and preserve Senegal's hopes.

Despite Morocco's sustained pressure in the closing stages, Senegal held firm to earn a valuable point against the tournament hosts.

The result was enough for Morocco to finish top of Group A with seven points, advancing to the quarter-finals as group winners.

Elsewhere, Algeria defeated Kenya 2-0 to move into second place on six points, joining Morocco in the knockout stage.

Senegal ended the group stage in third place with four points, while Kenya finished bottom of the standings without registering a single point.
