WAFCON 2026: Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene sets out Cameroon’s ambitions ahead of the match against Mali
The Indomitable Lionesses striker displayed a spirit characterised by determination and pride.
Cameroon’s women’s team kick off their campaign this Wednesday at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which has been taking place in Morocco since 26 July. For their first match in Group D, the Indomitable Lionesses face Mali at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca at 8 pm GMT.
At a press conference ahead of the match, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene delivered a powerful message. The Cameroonian international recalled how Cameroon secured their place in the tournament.
Despite the challenges faced, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene insists that the Indomitable Lionesses are approaching this competition with enthusiasm and a desire to make the most of the experience.
“We’re proud to be here. As the coach so aptly put it, we know where we’ve come from. We know what it took for us to get here and to be able to take part in this greatest celebration of women’s football. Cameroon have come here to enjoy themselves and we didn’t want to miss out on this adventure.”
