WAFCON 2026: Côte d'Ivoire Defeat Tanzania 2-1 to Finish Top of Group B WAFCON 2026: Côte d'Ivoire Defeat Tanzania 2-1 to Finish Top of Group B

Côte d'Ivoire wrapped up the group stage of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday night, securing top spot in Group B and a place in the quarter-finals.

The Lady Elephants produced another composed performance at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, finishing the group phase unbeaten.

After a closely contested opening period, Côte d'Ivoire finally found the breakthrough just before the half-time whistle. Nsira Ouedraogo opened the scoring after being picked out by Ines Konan, giving the Ivorians a deserved lead heading into the interval.

The West Africans continued to control proceedings after the restart and were rewarded with a second goal in the 68th minute. This time, Ines Konan got on the scoresheet herself, calmly converting from the penalty spot to double Côte d'Ivoire's advantage and put her side firmly in control of the contest.

Tanzania refused to give up and managed to pull one goal back deep into stoppage time when Diana Msewa converted a penalty. However, the late strike proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Côte d'Ivoire held on to claim all three points.

The victory sees the Lady Elephants finish top of Group B with seven points from three matches, extending their unbeaten run and booking a place in the knockout stage as group winners.

In the other Group B fixture, South Africa defeated Burkina Faso 1-0, a result that saw Banyana Banyana finish second and also qualify for the quarter-finals.
