WAFCON 2026: Algeria Beat Senegal 2-0 in Group A Opener

Algeria have officially opened their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a 2-0 victory over Senegal on Sunday.

Marine Dafeur broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute, giving Algeria the lead just before half-time.

The Desert Foxes then sealed all three points late in the match when Mélissa Bethi found the net two minutes before the end of regulation time.

The win puts Algeria at the top of Group A for now, with hosts Morocco set to face Kenya later on Sunday at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in their opening fixture.
