WAFCON 2026: Algeria Beat Kenya 2-0 to Reach Quarter-Finals

Algeria booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kenya on Tuesday, securing second place in Group A.

Knowing that a win would guarantee qualification for the knockout stage, the Algerians produced a composed display to finish the group phase on a high.

The breakthrough came in the 14th minute, when captain Marine Defeur produced a moment of brilliance. The experienced defender curled a superb long-range free-kick into the back of the net, leaving the Kenyan goalkeeper with no chance and giving Algeria an early advantage.

Algeria continued to dominate after taking the lead and were rewarded with a second goal just nine minutes later. Forward Lynda Bendris capitalised on relentless pressing inside the Kenyan penalty area, forcing goalkeeper Elizabeth Ochaka into a costly mistake before calmly slotting the ball into the net to double her side's lead.

Despite Kenya's efforts to fight their way back into the contest, Algeria remained organised defensively and comfortably protected their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.

The victory sees Algeria finish second in Group A, one point behind hosts Morocco, who topped the standings after another impressive group-stage campaign.
