Nigeria and Malawi have joined the first five nations that had earlier secured their places in the knockout stage of the tournament.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, taking place in Morocco, continues with the group stage. But ahead of the conclusion of this stage this Thursday 6 August, the quarter-finals are taking shape. Following Cameroon, Morocco, Algeria, Ivory Coast and South Africa, Nigeria and Malawi have also qualified for the knockout stage.

The defending champions, Nigeria, secured their place in the quarter-finals with a victory over Egypt on Wednesday 5 August during the third and final matchday of Group C. Although they had made a poor start to the tournament with a 3–2 defeat to Malawi, the Super Falcons bounced back to reach the quarter-finals.

The ten-time African champions first beat Zambia 1–0 on the second matchday before thrashing Egypt 6–2 on the final matchday of Group C. The Super Falcons finished second in Group C.

For their part, Malawi caused a sensation at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. In their first-ever appearance, the Malawi women’s team secured two wins and suffered one defeat in the group stage. Thanks to this performance, Malawi finished top of Group C and progressed to the quarter-finals.
