A very unusual reason for a disciplinary action.

Details: According to ESPN Brasil, the prosecutor of Brazil’s Superior Sports Court (BCCT) has condemned Corinthians’ 32-year-old forward Memphis Depay for using his mobile phone on the substitutes’ bench after being subbed off in Sunday’s match against Flamengo.

Reports state that Depay has been charged under Article 258 of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code (CBJD), which applies to players whose actions violate discipline and sporting ethics.

If found guilty, Depay will be fined and could be suspended for between one and six matches.

Depay has already responded to the accusations, explaining that he picked up his phone to inform the Netherlands national team’s medical staff about an injury, not for personal reasons.

Depay is currently awaiting a hearing, which is expected to take place soon.

This season, Memphis Depay has played 12 matches for Corinthians, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.

Reminder: An amusing moment. Depay caught on his phone during a Brazilian Serie A match
