Vidić had an agreement with another club before joining Manchester United
Nemanja Vidić is considered a true legend of Manchester United, but as it turns out, the Serbian defender’s path could have taken a different direction, as he had already reached an agreement with another club.
Details: Vidić revealed that he had agreed to transfer from Spartak Moscow, his club at the time, to Fiorentina. However, the move was planned for the summer of 2006, unlike his mid-season switch to Manchester United. Interestingly, Liverpool also showed interest in signing him.
Quote: “In life, when people start speaking well of you, a lot of interest arises. Fiorentina was interested; I had agreed to join them, and then Liverpool came along,” Vidić said in a recent interview with Sky Sports.
Reminder: Vidić eventually got his chance to play in Serie A, representing Inter Milan later in his career. He played for Manchester United from 2006 to 2014.
