The world's number one, Iga Swiatek, effortlessly advanced to the quarterfinals at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.

WTA 1000 Indian Wells. Round of 16

Iga Swiatek (Poland) - Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) - 6:1, 6:2

In one of the instances, Putintseva executed an underarm serve. Swiatek commented on her opponent's decision:

- Has it ever happened before that a player served to you by hand?
- I don't think so, honestly. Maybe they teach it in Kazakhstan. I don't know because Bublik does the same thing.

Frankly, I don't mind. Honestly, if the serve had landed, it would probably have been my best return of the entire match (smiles). Actually, I was unhappy that it went out. But I'm ready for anything that comes to my side of the court, so I don't care what happens on the other side of the net, - said Iga.

This was the third meeting between the tennis players, and the Polish player remained undefeated.

For Iga, this will be her third quarterfinal at this prestigious tournament. She has won 28 out of her last 30 matches.

In the quarterfinals, Swiatek will face Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark (ranked 204th in the WTA), who defeated Angelique Kerber from Germany (ranked 607th in the WTA) in a battle between former world number ones.

In the previous round, Swiatek defeated Linda Noskova.
