Today in Uzbekistan, the Asian Cup 2024 for women under 20 kicked off. The match between the Australian and South Korean national teams will be remembered not only for the Australian comeback and the winning goal in the 90th minute but also for the peculiar preparation for the tournament, particularly the snow-covered field before the match.

Videos are circulating online showing the players having to dig through the snow to place the ball for a free kick.

Australian journalist Samantha Lewis published a video of the game with the caption:

"Seriously, what on earth? Explain yourselves, Asian Cup!".

Another spectator commented:

"Watching them dig through the snow for a kick is madness."

The tournament is taking place in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, where the weather is currently hovering around 0°C (32°F). However, such weather conditions and the state of the field are not conducive to playing football. Moreover, under these circumstances, the safety and well-being of the players may be in question. The credit for the successful completion of the match lies entirely with the female footballers, who bravely took to the field.
