Arturo Vidal’s star power was on full display as Colo Colo held their only training session ahead of their Copa Libertadores opener against Atlético Bucaramanga. On Monday, the Chilean giants worked out at the Primero de Marzo Stadium of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, where local fans turned out in droves to catch a glimpse of the legendary midfielder. According to RedGol, the crowd was so overwhelming that even security personnel struggled to manage the enthusiastic supporters.
Vidal, a two-time Copa América champion, greeted fans, signed autographs, and handed over his training hoodie in a gesture that thrilled the Colombian crowd. Despite being a visiting team, Colo Colo found a warm reception, largely due to Vidal’s global reputation and past success with elite clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.
The excitement took even the club’s staff by surprise. “Usually when you come as the away team, it’s hostile,” said Colo Colo sporting director Daniel Morón. “But this was the opposite. These fans came not just for the team, but because Arturo Vidal is the attraction.”
Vidal is expected to start on Tuesday as Colo Colo kick off their Group Stage campaign in the 2025 Copa Libertadores.
