Victor Osimhen Reveals Why He Rejected Napoli Stay After Talks With Antonio Conte
Super Eagles and Galatasaray S.K. striker Victor Osimhen has opened up on his decision to leave S.S.C. Napoli, confirming he turned down the opportunity to remain at the club despite holding talks with new manager Antonio Conte.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen dismissed reports suggesting Conte did not want him at Napoli. Instead, the Nigerian forward revealed that the Italian coach personally asked him to stay.
According to the 27-year-old, Conte invited him for a private conversation shortly after taking charge and made his intentions clear.
“When Conte came in, he called me into his office and said he knew about the situation, but he still wanted me to stay,” Osimhen said.
“I told him I would like to work with him, but I had already made my decision: I didn’t want to keep playing in a place where I wasn’t happy.”
