Victor Boniface Receives Support From Former Werder Bremen Stars Amid Goal Drought

Nigeria international striker Victor Boniface has received strong backing from former Werder Bremen stars Claudio Pizarro and Martin Harnik as he continues to search for his first goal at the Bundesliga club.

Boniface, who joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, has yet to find the back of the net. Despite the goal drought, both former Werder forwards remain confident in the Nigerian’s ability to make an impact.

Martin Harnik spoke to DeichStube about Boniface’s situation, drawing a compelling comparison to former Bremen star Max Kruse.

“For me, he’s a character you have to let do his own thing. Much like Max Kruse back then, he needs as much freedom as possible,” Harnik said. “If you let him off the leash, then I believe he’s a truly creative player with a lot of joy in the game and will help the team.”

Similarly, Werder legend Claudio Pizarro, who scored 153 goals for the club, encouraged Boniface to remain patient and focused.

“He’s in a difficult phase at the moment, but he just has to keep working to show his quality again,” Pizarro explained. “Hopefully, he’ll start scoring at Werder; that would be very important for both sides. When he scores, then hopefully a lot of goals will come.”
