Venezuelan-Born Forward Alejandro Gomes Shines for England at U-17 Euros

Alejandro Gomes, a Caracas-born forward with British citizenship and Portuguese roots, has made waves at the U-17 European Championship, scoring four goals in three games for England. Despite the team’s early elimination, Gomes stood out with a goal in every match, including a brace against Italy.
As reported by AS, the young striker has previously represented Venezuela, Portugal, and now England at youth level. He played friendlies with Venezuela, registered a goal and three assists for Portugal, but has since settled with the English national setup, gaining consistent appearances.
Gomes started his football journey in England, joining Southampton’s academy in 2022 before moving to Lyon. He scored five goals for Lyon’s reserves this season and made his professional debut in Ligue 1. He was also named in the squad for the Europa League clash against Manchester United.
While Venezuela’s football federation is actively scouting dual nationals to strengthen their youth and senior teams, Gomes appears firmly on the path to a future with England, making a return to the Vinotinto increasingly unlikely.
