Things could have turned out very differently in this match.

Details: Yesterday at the Estadio de Vallecas, Rayo Vallecano hosted Real Madrid in Matchday 12 of La Liga.

The match ended in a goalless draw, 0-0, despite Real firing off 21 shots at the opposition’s goal. The Galacticos just couldn’t break down the hosts’ defense. But besides the barrage of shots, there were two moments in Vallecano’s box that could have resulted in penalties for Real Madrid. However, match referee José Munuera Montero decided against awarding a spot-kick, and the VAR system didn’t even review the incidents.

It is believed that the reason could have been a power outage in the area where the entire VAR officials’ team was stationed. According to media reports, the fault might lie with a journalist who unplugged the main power cable to charge his laptop, inadvertently cutting off electricity to the VAR room.

As of now, there has been no official explanation as to why the referee did not consult the replays. At the moment, Real Madrid sit atop the La Liga table with 31 points from 12 matches.
