USMNT Set to Drop Three Spots in Upcoming FIFA Rankings
The United States Men’s National Team is expected to fall to 19th place in the next FIFA rankings, scheduled for release on April 2, according to As USA. The drop comes after a disappointing performance in the Concacaf Nations League, where the USMNT lost both the semifinal against Mexico and the third-place match.
Meanwhile, Mexico capitalized on its strong showing by winning both games, earning 50 points and climbing to 16th place with 1,677.4 points. In contrast, the U.S. will stand at 1,645.48 points, slipping three positions from its current ranking.
Senegal and Iran are also set to surpass the Americans. Senegal picked up points with a draw against Sudan and a win over Togo in CAF World Cup qualifiers, reaching 1,674.75 points to stay in 17th. Iran defeated the UAE and drew with Uzbekistan in AFC qualifiers, reaching 1,672.81 points and moving into 18th.
Although FIFA rankings are not always a precise measure of on-field performance, this decline highlights the urgency for the USMNT to regroup. With friendly matches on the horizon in June and the 2025 Gold Cup approaching, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will need to spark a turnaround to reassert the team’s regional dominance and regain lost ground on the international stage.
