Used tricks. José Mourinho talks about mind games with Samuel Eto'o

Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho reflected on his coaching stint at Inter Milan in an interview with BBC Sport. The Portuguese admitted that he employed special mind games to motivate Samuel Eto'o for the matches.

José confessed that Samuel was one of the most mentally strong players in his coaching career. He stated that, knowing Eto'o's character, he would tease the Cameroonian by saying he wouldn't play him in the next match, despite the player's requests. Mourinho explained that he understood the type of player Eto'o was and knew exactly how he would react to such words.
As a result, a week later, Eto'o played in the return leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and scored the only goal. This was followed by a victory over Barcelona in the semi-final and winning the cup in the final against Bayern Munich.
It is worth noting that the interview was part of the project "How to Win the Champions League: José Mourinho." The main topic, of course, was the story of the Portuguese manager's victories in the premier European tournament. Besides winning with Inter Milan in 2010, he also claimed the trophy with Porto in 2004.
