Uriel Antuna’s Goal Drought Continues, Sparks Concern at Tigres
Uriel Antuna arrived at Tigres as one of the most talked-about transfers of the season, but his time in Monterrey has so far failed to meet expectations. The Mexican winger, once a top scorer for Cruz Azul, has yet to find the back of the net with his new club and remains stuck in a prolonged goal drought.
Antuna’s last goal came during the first leg of the Clausura 2024 final while still with Cruz Azul. Since then, he’s gone 34 matches without scoring — six with Cruz Azul and 28 with Tigres, reports Mediotiempo. On Tuesday night, he was named in the starting eleven for the Concachampions quarterfinal first leg against LA Galaxy but was substituted in the 73rd minute without registering a goal or assist.
His playing time has also taken a hit. In the Apertura 2024, he logged just 405 minutes with four starts, and this current Clausura he has only 368 minutes across Liga MX and Concachampions, again with just three starts. Over the current campaign, he’s managed only two assists in 33 appearances.
This decline is stark when compared to his breakout Clausura 2024 run, where he led the scoring charts as a striker under Martín Anselmi. That version of Antuna now feels distant. Despite the high expectations and media buzz surrounding his arrival, Tigres are still waiting for their investment to pay off as Antuna struggles to rediscover his form.
