An incredible upset occurred in the 1/16 finals of the Indian Wells Masters tournament. The world's number one, Novak Djokovic, lost in three sets to the 20-year-old Italian, Luca Nardi, who is currently ranked 123rd in the world.

In the first set, Nardi did not concede a single game on his serve to the legendary Serbian and managed to win the third game on Djokovic's serve. As a result, Nardi secured a 6-4 victory in the set.

However, Djokovic rallied in the second set and won 6-3. It seemed that in the decisive set, the world's top-ranked player would not give Nardi a chance. Yet, the script unfolded similarly to the first set, and Nardi claimed a 6-3 victory.

Interestingly, Nardi did not qualify for the tournament, losing in the decisive round to Belgian David Goffin. However, Nardi entered the main draw of Indian Wells as a lucky loser.

Nardi became the first lucky loser in history to defeat Djokovic. Additionally, Djokovic suffered only the third defeat in history against a player outside the top 100 in the world rankings.

Djokovic has now suffered losses in two of his last three matches. Recall that he lost to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final.

In the round of 16, Nardi will face American Tommy Paul, who is ranked 17th in the ATP rankings.
