Tunisia began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 5-1 defeat, but the aftermath of that result has produced even more dramatic developments, as the team changed head coach during the tournament and, in doing so, entered the history books.
Details: According to Opta, this marks the fifth time in FIFA World Cup history that a national team has replaced its head coach during the tournament. However, Tunisia are the only side in history to have done so more than once.
World Cup in-tournament coaching changes:
- Scotland 1954
- Saudi Arabia 1998
- South Korea 1998
- Tunisia 1998
- Tunisia 2026
As a reminder: Hervé Renard has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Tunisia for the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
